What is SOC 2 Type 2 Compliance?
The Service Organization Control (SOC) 2 is an auditing procedure developed by the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). This procedure ensures that service providers, such as Software as a Service (SaaS) companies, manage data securely to protect the interests of the organization and the privacy of its clients.
There are two types of SOC 2 compliance – Type 1 and Type 2. While SOC 2 Type 1 compliance addresses a company's systems and whether they are suitably designed to meet relevant trust criteria, SOC 2 Type 2 goes a step further.
SOC 2 Type 2 compliance not only reviews the systems but also the operational effectiveness of those systems over a defined period. In simple terms, it verifies whether our security practices, policies, procedures, and operations meet the SOC 2 standards for managing customer data based on five "trust service principles"—security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy.
