Today, OpenAI announced that it had acquired Rockset and that OpenAI will not continue to operate the service. Rockset has provided more details. This means that Rockset customers must migrate their workloads off the platform.
We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the Rockset migration service. This service seamlessly migrates companies from Rockset to Propel and is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.
What is Rockset?
Rockset is a popular cloud-hosted real-time analytics database. It enables millisecond-latency queries for aggregations and joins, similar to Propel. Rockset uses a proprietary system of indexes to optimize for different query types. The system supports full SQL on semi-structured data, offers serverless auto-scaling, and provides real-time indexing with continuous data ingestion.
Rockset was well suited for building data-intensive applications like customer-facing analytics, personalization engines, gaming leaderboards, IoT apps, and AI-powered applications. Similar to Propel, it offered low-latency queries on real-time data without operational burden.
What is Propel?
Propel is a Serverless ClickHouse platform with out-of-the-box Data APIs and Embeddable UI Components.
It provides developers with:
- Serverless ClickHouse - A blazing-fast analytics backend without managing servers.
- Data APIs - Out-of-the-box Data APIs to build native customer-facing analytics experiences.
- Embeddable UI Components - Open-source embeddable dashboard React components.
Companies of all sizes have implemented Propel for a breadth of use cases, including:
- Customer-facing analytics: Build insights as part of your product experience.
- Product usage: Measure, report, and alert on product usage.
- Operational insights: Real-time analytics to optimize operations.
- Observability: Real-time visibility of the health of systems.
- Engagement metrics: Increase user engagement with in-product metrics.
- Personalization: Aggregated metrics for training and inference.
- LLM analytics: Track token usage, latency, and feedback of LLM applications.
What is the Rockset migration service?
The Rockset migration service is a new service by Propel to help Rockset customers migrate off Rockset while minimizing the engineering effort involved.
The service includes:
- Migrate the data from Rockset to Propel
- Set up ingestion pipelines to Propel
- Identify query patterns and map those to Propel APIs
- Optimize tables for sub-second latencies
The migration duration varies depending on the complexity and size of your Rockset setup. Generally, it can range from a few days to several weeks. We recommend scheduling a call with our team to get a more accurate estimate tailored to your situation.
How do I get started?
